Being a tourist we seek out every piece of information we can in the limited time we are in any place. You tend to learn and retain information at lightening speed when you travel. Devouring every piece of information your brain can hold on any given day.
The General Post Office on O’Connell Street in Dublin was the headquarters for the Easter Rising – or Easter Rebellion for Ireland to become a Republic in 1916. From the GPO, Patrick Pearce read the Proclamation of the Irish Republic.
Almost 100 years on, the large pillars of the building still show the bullet holes from the gunfire from the British Army. A reminder of those who put their lives on the line for an Irish Republic. Ill prepared and out numbered they made their stance and set their fate.
