Amsterdam – Bicycles – Waterways – Compact

Visiting Amsterdam in May is not ideal weather for most – yet I prefer it as there are less crowds/tourists, you see the city in a more natural state. Bicycles are the main transport in The Netherlands and the easiest to get around and park…almost. The three tiered bicycle parking at the train station holds 10,000 spaces per day and that is not enough for commuters. They need more!!! The country holds the record for having the most bicycles per capita.

* I love this one – Many train stations across the Netherlands have a piano.  It’s fascinating watching random travellers sit and begin playing – strangers will come up to listen and chat! Fabulously social to while away the time – and de stress perhaps? Yet the Dutch do not appear to be stressed people – could be all that bicycle riding! A simpler life.
